LEXMARK 12A5840 Refill Instructions
Tools flat head screwdriver, cartridge hole making tool, Replacement Chip Needed
1. Using flat head screwdriver, remove a piece of the cartridge label (see diagram).
- Turn the sealed bottle of toner upside down.
Tap the funnel cap.
Turn the 12A5840 cartridge right-side-up and tap the bottom of the bottle against a counter top.
Then, tilt the LEXMARK printer cartridge at an angle to gain access to the filling hole created as suggested by the diagram.
You can now safely insert the funnel cap into the filling hole and start pouring toner into the printer cartridge.
In case toner does not flow easily into the cartridge repeat from the beginning.
If you believe your cartridge may have been reused a lot or there is some sort of premature cartridge failure you should only fill your cartridge from 1/3 to 1/2 of its capacity at most.
Now seal the filling hole with duct tape.
Finally, gently shake the cartridge from side to side
3. Tilt cartridge upward and make hole (see diagram). Note: Whether you have the 7,500 or 17,600 yield, do not insert more than 1/3 bottle of toner into this cartridge, as the cartridge will not work AT ALL until you extract some of the toner from the cartridge.
Please note that the electronic “smart chip” on the outside of this cartridge reports the toner level to the machine (via radio frequency transmission). This chip will need to be replaced before the cartridge may be reused.
To replace the chip :
Using a flat head screwdriver, pry out old chip.
Push the new chip into place. Note : The replacement chip is backed with an adhesive to prevent it from falling out of place.
This cartridge may also be known as 12 A5840 or 12-A5840 or 12A5840 or lexmark-12a5840 .
